About

I read Sally Fallon’s book, Nourishing Traditions. I can’t say I agree with everything she says. I especially can’t agree with a lot of what the Weston Price Foundation (founded by Sally Fallon!) says. But I’m not one to throw out what is of value with what is not. I realized years ago that the change in the types of fats in the Standard American Diet to transfats and polyunsaturates were the cause of the heart disease epidemic in the US, not natural saturated fats. I realized years ago that High Fructose Corn Syrup was the cause of the obesity epidemic. Unfortunately, I failed to realize these things before I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Now I try to eat a Traditional Foods (TF) diet, modified to suit a diabetic. Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes I fail. Either way, I am on this journey, and welcome anybody on a similar journey. Maybe we can help each other!

  1. I was so happy to see your site. I am a type 1 diabetic and I have been since I was 10. I am almost 40 now. I started eating real whole foods about this time last year. It seems the Lord kept bringing the GAPS diet to me a lot and this year I gave in. I have been on the GAPS diet since the beginning of February. My blood sugars are better than they have ever been. I do feel better, but we have a ways to go before I see any big improvements I am sure.

I started a blog last year, but could not keep up with it. We have so much going on in our lives that I had to let it go. I am hoping to get back to it some day.

I look forward to seeing how things are going with you!

I could not find your name anywhere, so sorry I did not address you by it. Look forward to reading your e-mails!

  2. Hi there, also very excited to have found your site. I look forward to trying some of these recipes, particularly the recent brownies – I have been CRAVING some kind of sweet cakey delight lately!

I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance and am on a low GI diet in the hopes of not developing Type 2 DM.

I found your site as I was concerned about my steel cut oats – I love them, and soak them in the traditional food approach, but was worried that soaking might make them easier to digest and by doing so raise the GI. Perhaps I am better off skipping this step, but then I worry about the phytates :(

As I dont have diabetes I don’t have any way to monitor my BGL, but maybe you have some thoughts on this, as you can probably see how these differences might affect your BGL after eating?

Thanks so much and all the best
    Liesbeth
